Guitarist and composer John Konesky has spent most of his life performing and writing songs for bands, film, and various other outlets. Recently he has played on, and co-written, music for Tenacious D on their feature film The Pick of Destiny and the corresponding soundtrack and film score. One of those songs, The Metal, was picked up for use in the hugely popular video game "Guitar Hero 3." In addition John has also released an album with Kyle Gass of Tenacious D's side project Trainwreck in late 2009. John's record of solo acoustic material entitled "Kones" was released in 2008, and is available on Itunes. A few tracks have been featured in independent movies, short films, and documentaries. As a guitarist he's toured the globe with Tenacious D and Trainwreck, as well as appeared on tv perfomances such as Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, The American Music Awards, The Jonathan Ross show(UK), The Jimmy Kimmel show, The American Music Awards, and The Spike TV Video Game awards. When he's not touring, John focuses his efforts towards scoring for TV and Film as well as doing session work. Here's a review from the 2010 Tenacious D performance at Bonnaroo:If you were surprised by even the smallest bit of the D’s show, or “didn’t get it” you simply were not meant to be there. For those well aware of the bands rise, the real surprise here was the skill of their supporting cast. Though Jack Black (JB) and Kyle Gass (KG) did their part wonderfully, when it came down to the music, guitarist John Konesky nearly stole the show. Black riled the crowd up using all of his abilities stating that “Kung Fu Panda would be the end of Tenacious D because a Panda is the least metal thing ever,” and informing the crowd that they were potentially the biggest they had ever played to. Seriously Mr. Black, everyone knows panda’s are the most metal animal on the planet, go back to kicking Satan’s ass and leave the panda‘s on screen. -Bruce Matlock |
